I think I have found the solution. This is what I have done
1. I uninstalled google app from play store under my app. this doesn't remove the app, it just removes all the updates to date. (depending on a phone model )
2. I unchecked auto update on play store
3. I have cleared cache and storage under settings -> app -> google
4. I did force stop google app
5. I disabled google app
--- so at this point, google app is at it's factory setting without any update and disabled
--- then I re-enabled the app
--- google app is now on factory setting without any update enabled
--- It seemed battery drain issue didn't appear with this setting
--- just to make sure everything, I did turn off most of the assistant features, background use. only leaving bare minimum I need which was "ok google" voice matching feature
--- battery drain still didn't appear. background activity showed 0%
--- then I did turned on auto update on play store and updated google app to the latest version
It seemed battery drain is gone !
what I have noticed was if I activate google app by "ok google " , google app starts to use some battery. but after few minutes it goes back to sleep and doesn't drain battery background anymore.
I just got a new note20 ultra. and this was just my 2nd day of use. So I'm not sure above procedure worked solely for me or will be able help other phones. But basically what I have done was to combine all the advices people given in previous comments.
In sum, I think this problem could be from
1. previous updates. so clearing update by uninstalling and getting only the latest one might have worked.
2. maybe it was from google app features. I have turned off most of the features including location, ad, interest, background and so on. I have left voice matching plus only a couple.
3. maybe it was from corrupted data in cache & storage combined with above factors.
I have restarted my phone few times during above procedure.
my procedure wasn't so neat and I could have turned off too many features that I actually could benefit from. so this solution can get refined by other users experiment.
And finally , I am not completely sure if my phone would behave well tomorrow. it just looks good so far.
hopefully my phone can stay this way !
Thanks π! Hope it's helpful π π!
